[Live Report] JAM Project Special Live 2019 A-ROCK Day 1: [Early numbers]
It is 18:45, the last visitors are entering the venue and the diligent staff are ushering them in. Once inside one has the chance to grab a drink and snacks on the right side at the entrance, visit the bathroom one more time and then head straight to the main floor.
19:00. Finally the unit everyone has been waiting for taking the stage! JAM Project, a unit who gained more and more international attention, recently taking charge of the anime opening for One-Punch Man! This song was one of many anime songs performed by JAM Project who have been performing since the year 2000!
Currently, there are five regular members. Their names are Hironobu Kageyama, Masaaki Endoh, Hiroshi Kitadani, Masami Okui and Yoshiki Fukuyama. The members compose "anime songs" for "anime" by themselves. They are involved in everything and are continuing to evolve even now.
As the show starts, the stage is lit in blue colors showing a countdown on the screen followed by “JAM Project” and a slideshow of memories from the past starting with the year 2000 until the current year of 2019. The crowd silently awaits the first song.
Then it begins, the first song “SOULTAKER” wakes up the crowd like a Typhoon after a windless morning. Peak excitement is reached with a lively guitar solo followed by a beautiful vocal solo from Masami Okui. With the crowd warmed up from the first two songs, everyone turns their light sticks red and joins together for a collective wave of arms.
After the first three songs, the unit came forward and everyone introduced themselves. With their leader, Hironobu Kageyama as the main speaker telling jokes to the audience. After everything was said, a picture of the group was displayed in the background which lead to the fourth song.
The crowd started to imitate the movement of the unit members until the seventh song “GO!!!” started for some extra excitement. Suddenly everyone started jumping with their fists up in the air. Heavy guitar riffs carry on as the unit enters a call and response play with the audience during the song “MAXON.”
Following a lot of heavy metal and soft piano riffs, we reached the 12th song of the evening “VICTORY” which started with the whole crowd putting up victory (peace) hand signs into the air. As all the visitors are well and truly amped up, they all join in the singing of the song 13 together with JAM Project.
The first part of the live performance is over and the mood of the stage switched quickly as the “A-ROCK” banner was swapped out for one reading “DJ KG.” A disco ball comes down from the ceiling and disco music starts to play.
Almost the whole crowd changed the color of their light sticks to yellow as JAM Project reentered the stage and continued their performance with “GARO (牙狼) ~SAVIOR IN THE DARK~.”
The crowd go back and forth between raising the fists into sky and shouting out “Yay!” during “Fencer of GOLD” and silently listening to incredible synthesizer solo in “Name ~Kimi no Na wa (君の名は) ~.” It was out of this world!
After a short break, the hall turned blue and for the song “Portal” a galaxy was shown on the display giving the audience the feeling of traveling through space and time. With the arrival of “KI・ZU・NA~10th Anniv. Ver.~,” everyone in the crowd turned silent and relaxed while rewinding and reliving the emotions of 19 years with their favorite unit JAM Project.
After that, JAM Project got back on stage for the grand finale rocking Toyosu Pit with their hit songs and finishing with “Rescue Fire (レスキューファイアー).” All the support band members of JAM Project were separately introduced to the audience, playing their wildest and most awesome solo on each of their instruments. Five salutes to the gathered crowd with the voice “Bakuchin Kanryo (爆鎮完了) !” ended this spectacular song and JAM Project left the stage.
This was without a doubt a live performance worthy of being written down in the history of Japanese music events. For all of you out there looking for an exciting show in Japan, we highly recommend checking the next stage event from “JAM Project”!
